Our family of four has never been photographed all together. I am usually behind the lens and I have to admit that I am not a big fan of being in front of it. You know what they say--doctors make the worst patients. I think that also applies to photographers (or at least to this one). Two years ago Tara photographed me and the boys, but Josh was unable to make that trip out. Our friend Amy in Oakland photographed us a few times too, but that was before the arrival of Sam. So a family portrait session was long overdue.I have been planning two sessions in the next two months by photographers I really admire. I won't say who because I love to build a little suspense and two because I never believe things will really happen until they do. So I have to admit that when Joy sent me an email about doing a possible trade I was unsure. I didn't know how much I could subject my family to in such a short period of time. But I loved Joy's work and I always advocate helping other photographer's out with family shoots. The saying 'the cobbler's kids have no shoes' also applies to photographer's having photos of their entire family in one frame. I am so happy that I ignored my hesitations and went with my gut. Joy and her family are such a lovely addition to our lives and the photos she took of our family are a true gift. You can see more of them on her blog here.
