I had originally planned on writing about something else today, but what is really on my mind right now is the tragedy in Boston. Believe it or not, I ran my first and only marathon in Los Angeles in 1987 when I was 20 years old. I ran about 70 miles a week to get ready and spent hours upon hours pounding the pavement. I only wanted to complete the race, no matter how long it took. And I did. Four hours after I started the race, I crossed the finish line. So today when I heard the news, I kept thinking of my 20 year old self crossing the line, exhausted, but fulfilled, only to be blown up at the end. Can you even imagine? I have no idea what caused the explosions, and in a sense it almost does not matter, because the end result is the same. Many people were needlessly killed and injured. They just wanted to get in shape, have fun and run a race. Was that so much to ask? It is a terrible, terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. It is a very sad day.
